Early Life & Roots

Born and raised in the heart of Smiths Falls,  Peter understood firsthand the impact that poverty and a lack of opportunity can have on individuals and families. He and his 10 siblings shared many memories on Queen St, Old Slys Locks, and in Hanley Hall. His first job was in Smiths Falls, his first Old Home Week, his first bike ride. His roots are all throughout Smiths Falls.

At just 15 years old, he began advocating for deeply affordable housing, a commitment that has stayed with him throughout his life and career.

Peter went on to build a career in mental health and social services, working alongside people and families facing some of life’s greatest challenges. He later spent 18 years as Executive Director of Rideau Community Health Services, where he helped lead an organization focused on improving the health and well-being of people across our community.

That experience has shaped the way Peter approaches leadership. He believes good government starts with listening, understanding the realities people face, and finding practical ways to make life better.

Values & Vision

Experience

With a career spanning senior management, 8 years on Town Council, and over 30 years in social services,  Peter brings decades of experience working with people, organizations and the challenges facing our community. He understands how decisions at the municipal level affect people’s everyday lives.

Compassion

Peter’s commitment to community comes from a lifetime of listening to people and standing alongside them through difficult times. He understands that behind every issue are real people, families and lives, and believes leadership should always begin with empathy, dignity and a willingness to listen.

Future Focussed

Peter wants to build on the good work already underway while preparing Smiths Falls for the challenges ahead. From housing and affordability to climate change, infrastructure and accessibility, he is focused on building a stronger community for today and for the generations that follow.

Integrity

Peter believes leadership means being honest and  accountable.  He will approach Mayorship with openness, respect and a commitment to doing what is right for Smiths Falls.

Life Outside Politics

Peter is also a husband, father and grandfather. He has three adult children, five grandchildren, and another grandchild on the way. Family is at the heart of his life, and he cares deeply about the kind of community future generations will inherit.

Outside of politics and community work, you’ll usually find Peter doing something that keeps him connected to the things he loves. He spends time gardening and being outdoors and is a voracious reader. He loves live music, values his friendships, and never seems to run out of things he wants to learn about.
